Physical characteristics of an Australian embayment and drowned river valley

  1. High wave/tide energy at the wide entrance, depending on local conditions (e.g. embayments on tide-dominated coastlines will experience a higher tidal energy, whereas embayments on wave-dominated coastlines will experience higher wave energy).
  2. Frictional forces tend to reduce total hydraulic energy inside the embayment.
  3. Further headward, total hydraulic energy is reduced, however significant wave/tide energy is able to penetrate the entire embayment.
