What are the critical success factors?

The following are critical success factors for natural resource management activities requiring the cooperation and involvement of the community. They have been adapted from the publication of Transferring success – an examination of Healthy Waterways management initiative in south-east Queensland – Maher et al., 2002

  • Stakeholder involvement in agreement-based decision making
  • Inclusiveness – community involvement and cooperation
  • Champions and advocates
  • Good structures and processes for collaboration
  • Adequate funding generated through creative alliances of governments, industry and community
  • Quality staff (with a can do attitude)
  • Good quality science
  • Accountability to hard targets
  • Effective and timely project management
  • Good external links to regional planning
  • Quality communications
