Southeast Coast Geomorphological Region

  1. Estuaries are predominantly small to medium sized wave-dominated or barrier estuaries
  2. Relatively low overall rainfall, falling evenly throughout the year
  3. Typically experiences strong wave energy
  4. Restricted marginal marine vegetation (mangroves and melaleuca)
  5. Relatively large areas of intertidal environments surrounding a well-developed central basin
  6. This region is very populated, and human activity effects the majority of estuaries
  7. Estuaries remaining in near-pristine condition are relatively small, most are located in Tasmania
