Southwest Coast Geomorphological Region

  1. Estuaries are mostly small to medium sized wave-dominated or barrier estuaries
  2. High rainfall during winter, very dry during summer
  3. Strong wave energy from the Indian Ocean , and the lowest tidal range in Australia
  4. Coastline is very flat with numerous rocky headlands in the south
  5. Many estuaries in modified condition and during summer can suffer the effects of nutrient runoff from the land causing algal blooms
  6. Only one near-pristine estuary (Broke Inlet) in this region
